“Arschkriecher” (Asslicker) is one of the tracks off the new album “Dust” from Laurel Halo, with another bearing the title “Nicht Ohne Risiko” (Not Without Risk). Her place of residence could well be the inspiration, namely Berlin. Halo is actually from Ann Arbor, but such details feel irrelevant given the fact that her music focuses on the absence of place. Her sound is always a bit Dadaistic, seemingly misdirected as if she had broken her leg. Hobbling on, Halo explores abstract sounds while orchestrating the tempo. It’s an electronic quest, one which finds expression in pure synth tracks, krautrock scéance and pseudo-jazz instrumentals.
