Nene Hatun is a 19th century Turkish folk heroine – And a Turkish piano player, composer and vanguard of electronic music, living in Berlin. Beste Aydin took the moniker to give her interpretation of Anatolian dark techno a birth. What unites the two is the pride in their identities as independent Turkish women.
After studying piano and composition in Ankara, Tel Aviv and Stuttgart, she decided to move on to a rougher sound exploring genres such as Noise, Drone, Dub and Industrial. ‘Metacommunication’, her new release on Bedouin Records combines hypnotic sounds and rhythms from different parts of the world challenging expectations of what club music should be. It is both: contemplative and liberating.
